Everyone who lives in or visits Kilkenny should at some point walk to the summit of Brandon to take in the amazing views from all around. There is a birds eye view of the river Barrow and Nore as the meet outside New Ross.
On a clear day you can see every mountain range in the east of the country and even the Saltee Islands off the coast of Wexford.
Brandon has a vast and rich history. There are a number of Neolithic sites believed to be used for rituals, some believe they were used for animal or even human sacrifice. The monks from Duiske Abbey used moated sites for prayer in silence during the summer months. One night the silence was broken by the sound of gun fire which ended with a poacher and gamekeeper being shot. Care should be taken at dusk on the Inistioge side of the hill as there has been a number of sightings of the headless horse man.
